Reduce Stress

I understand running your own affiliate marketing business can be very stressful especially you didn't see money coming in after all your hard work. I understand that very well because I have been there and I do feel it sometime when my campaign is not working. So, instead of any affiliate marketing tips, I decided to write about tips to lower stress today. I hope they can help. :-)

Forcing your sales

Forcing your sales to come in goes beyond stress and frustration. I personally experience it to turn into anger and rage. I was angry to the prospects for not buying my things, my tutor for showing me the methods that don’t work and I was angry to myself for getting into the business and wasted the time and money to promote the business.

But after I sat down and think about it, I don't even buy all the things I saw in promotion. If that is the case, how I can force other people to buy my stuff? That's just isn't fair. My prospects are people with their own thinking and they have their right to how and whom to spend their money on.

If they don't buy my stuff, then there must be something wrong with my marketing. I might be targeting the wrong market, showing the wrong message or not having enough traffic. It is until I rectify the problems, I will still suffer without any sales.

Turn the page

Unlike some affiliate marketers, my journey was full of obstacles. It seems that I have to work through a lot of challenges just to bring in a $45 commission. If you are as unfortunate as I am, there is only one thing I can say to you,

"Keep working."

It is useless to tell you to keep your faith because faith is probably playing games with you (that's how I define mine). It is quite hopeless to depend on something that is invisible and seems to playing you around.

Be Clear About Affiliate Marketing

I hope that I have made you understand what is affiliate marketing and your potential of making a healthy living with this business over all the posts. However, I believe that once in a while you will see comments that affiliate marketing is a fraud, the business is a get rich scheme and stuff like that. So, today, I will try my best to clear some of the argument you have heard.

1. Affiliate marketing is a fraud

Firstly, I have to be clear with you that affiliate marketing NOT a fraud. Everything is ok with this business. If you look clearly about it, this is just like the sales job in the offline world where you only earn commission when you bring in sales to the company (to the vendors in this case).

But I have to admit that there are people who exploited the name of affiliate marketing for their own profit. They enroll you as the affiliate and refuse to pay you after your hard work and investment. It is understandable that out of rage you announce that affiliate marketing is fraud.

I will do the same if I were you. Although it is unfortunate that you were victimized by the scam artists, I hope that you understand that there is nothing wrong with the business. It is the people who take advantage on you who should be blame.

2. Affiliate marketing is a get rich scheme

I understand how you can get that impression. I was lured into the business by a sales letter which claims that I can earn $23,000 in a week. Now, who doesn't want that? I bought the product and follow the steps only to find that the reality was different from what the ebook has described. I made zero income in a week and what I earn was credit card charges that almost blew my mind.

It was not until then that I start to research about the business and to see that you actually need to work very very hard and spend a lot more money if you were to make money in a week. So, it is very possible to earn great income in a short period just that you have to be prepare to make more investment into the business. If you don't have the money and time to spare, you will have to be consistent and persistent like me to start making money with affiliate marketing.

3. Affiliate marketing is easy money

Like what I said just now, affiliate marketing is never easy. It only starts to be easy when you have built the business. It is then you will see a large sum of money sit in your account when you wake up every morning.

Then why the affiliate marketers said that the business is easy and you can earn big money easily? Do they want to lure you into the business and scam your money?

Personally, I don't think that is all the reason. Let's think about this, it they told that you need to spend a lot of sleepless night and invest a lot of money to build your affiliate marketing business, will you join the business? Will you be interested to read the rest of the sales letter? If I were you, I would probably leave the website immediately.

I think you probably will do the same when you are promoting your own affiliate marketing product. It is not that you want to scam your customers' money. It is just how the business is run.

You have to understand the terms and conditions set by the vendors and the affiliate network before you sign up for any affiliate programs. You don't want to work hard to promote the product only to see the vendors or the affiliate network refuse to pay you because you violated the regulations.

It is very important that you check on the reputation of the vendor before you start promoting their products. There are cases where affiliates were not making money simply because the vendor don't want to or hold their payment. Imagine you have spent quite a sum of money on pay per click (PPC) and you need the commission to pay for the PPC cost at the end of the month. My blood will surely boil if I were stuck in this situation.

You can also ask about the affiliate program if you are in any affiliate marketing forum. The members will share the information with you if they know anything about the program.

The, you will want to look at the marketing tools provided by the vendors. It is preferably that you choose the affiliate program that provide ready made marketing tool to save your time. You can paste the banner on your website and start promoting the product immediately.

You can even publish the article written by the vendor to start making money with the affiliate program. But if I were you, I will make some changes on the article and possibly add some extra information to it just to make it look more unique. Think about this, you are probably marketing to the same prospects with your competitors. Your potential customers might have read the same article before. If you have read the same article before, will you read it again? But when you make your post different, your prospects might stay until the end of the article and probably buy from you.

Lastly, you want to check out the cookie of the affiliate program. You can still earn the affiliate commission if your prospects go back to buy the product within the cookie period. It is better that affiliate programs offer longer cookie period.

To start this post, I think a lot of you are still waiting for the perfect affiliate program to start your affiliate marketing business. But I want to be clear with you that you might not be able to benefit from the affiliate program that helps other people to earn their mansion and yacht. So, below are some tips to help you to identify the right affiliate marketing program for you.

Where to start

You can start by Google for "your niche + affiliate" and look at the search results. You can then analyze the programs and join the one that you think is most suitable for you.

Or you can look at affiliate programs at affiliate program networks like Clickbank, PayDotCom, Commission Junction, Linkshare or Shareasale. These networks are the middle man who run the administrative work for the vendors and pay you as the affiliate.

You can then sign up as an affiliate for free and start your online venture. One important thing you need to remember is that signing for affiliate should be free. No Matter What The Vendor Said. Think about this, you are helping them to make money, just like you are working for someone else, they should be the one to pay you. Why should you pay for anything to work for someone else?

How to start

Now, I understand that you are eager to make money with affiliate marketing and you are willing to work hard for a few affiliate marketing programs. But quantity doesn't equal to quality. Of course you need to work hard to be a successful affiliate marketer but you have to work smart too.

So, before you join any affiliate marketing program, make sure that the potential affiliate income is worth your time.

However, the potential affiliate income doesn't say it all. It is just the basic screening tool. You have to look at the conversion rate as well. Let's imagine the affiliate program offers you $45 per sale yet the conversion rate is just 0.5%. That means you only make money when you have 200 clicks. What if another affiliate programs offer $30 as commission and the conversion rate is 1%? That means you will make money with 100 clicks and by 200 clicks, you already make $60. It is an extra of $15 with same number of visitors as the first affiliate program. Now, you want to be the successful affiliate marketer, you go figure which affiliate program is more worth your time.

Besides, the vendors can only pay you more commission when they charge higher price for their products. This expensive price might hinder the customer from buying the product hence affect the conversion rate.

With that being said, I hope you don't misunderstand that you can make more money with affiliate marketing by promoting cheap products with high conversion rate. If the affiliate program has the conversion rate of 1% and offers $4 per sales, do you think it is worth your time? You need to have 1000 clicks to earn $40. For crying out loud, do you know how much cost, work and time you will need? Unless the affiliate program suddenly boost its conversion rate to 10%, you are better off joining other affiliate program.

I hope that I didn't confuse you with the calculation. I just need you to understand that the potential affiliate income and the conversion rate have to go hand in hand if you were to make money with affiliate marketing.

A lot of people believe that affiliate marketing is perfect business model because you can make money with this business with the least capital. Furthermore, there are a lot of vendors who are happy to provide you all the marketing tools that you need to build your affiliate marketing business.

But the problem is the vendors seldom supply you (the affiliate marketer) with the website (except the generic website with your affiliate link attached to the URL). And you probably have heard thousand of times that you need your own website to build your affiliate marketing business. But some still said that you can still make money without having a website.

So, which should you believe to?

With generic affiliate marketing website, you can save your money from registering domain, hosting services and autoresponder services. You can then direct the prospects to the generic website and you can start to make money when they buy the products. And looking at the fact that most affiliate programs offer cookies at your prospects computer, you can still earn the commission when they return to buy product within the cookie period.

Besides, when you are using the generic website, you can save your money from building and maintaining your website. This is because you often need to outsource your work if you have no knowledge about HTML. What if you are weak in writing? You still have to pay for the sales letter.

However, you have to becareful with generic affiliate program website when you are using article marketing to build your affiliate marketing business. This is because a lot of article directories will reject your articles when you are directing the readers to an affiliate link. So, you are better off to use other marketing method when you are using the generic website to build your affiliate marketing business.

That basically sums up how you can make money with affiliate marketing if you are using the generic website. So, let's look at how you can make money with affiliate marketing when you have your own website.

When you are marketing with your website, you can have control over what you want to say. If you think the vendor's sales letter is weak, you can publish your own sales letter to increase your conversion.

Then, you can build your website however you like it look. If you think banners can help you to make money with affiliate marketing, you can display the banner however you want (not flooding your website of course). If you think video or audio can increase your conversion, you can publish the right tools on your website just to help to convey your messages.

Furthermore, you can enroll to an autoresponder service to build your list. I don't know whether you heard it before or not,

Analysis For Your Affiliate Marketing Business

Now, you might be making some money with affiliate marketing and you might not be. Either way, don't you want to know how you can make more money with affiliate marketing? Then, you have to answer this,

"Have you ever analyzed your business?"

If you have never analyze your business, how can you possibly know which marketing method is bringing in the most business for you? If you never look into your business, how can you determine the time to expand your affiliate marketing business into another niche?

Since you are in affiliate marketing, I believe you are affiliated to multiple products. Then, have you ever looked into which products are making money for you and which aren't? "Why other affiliate marketers are building their affiliate marketing business with PPC and you aren't? Why other affiliate marketers can boost their conversion with a single article and you aren't? What are you doing differently that you are not enjoying the same result as them?"

If you still can't figure out why you are not reaping result your marketing method, you probably need to get some help. Go join a course, get an ebook or outsource your work. When what you are doing is not getting the result you want, you need to do something different about it.

Lastly, as a successful affiliate marketer, you need to look into your gross profit. This is the profit that you really earn after you have deducted all your cost. Many new affiliate marketers thought that as long as they are bringing in money with their affiliate marketing business, they are making profit.

If you are one of them, think again. Let's say you are $75 per sale and your PPC cost is $100. Can you say that you have profited with affiliate marketing? Definitely not. If you made 10 sales with the same cost and income, you lost a total of $250 and that really deviated from the true meaning of making money with affiliate marketing.

So, don't be too happy when you see money coming into your affiliate account. Keep your head clear and do some calculations before you celebrate your affiliate marketing success.

Affiliate Marketing Tips You Must Remember

If you have been following closely with your affiliate marketing business, I believe you are quite clear about the business by now. You might not be making money yet but at least you know how the game is play. So, below are some tips to share with you and if you have seen them before, just ignore them.

1. Cookies

Now, it is common that you customers don't buy from you the first time they see your offer. Well, they have all the reasons to and you have to respect that. Do you remember how you were told that you need to have a platform to capture these customers so that they don't slip away?

What if you don't have the money to get the autoresponder service? Luckily, a lot of the affiliate programs offer cookies which usually last 30-90 days. This means if your customers return to get the product within that period, you will still earn the commission. Quite a nice feature if you ask me.

Still, this is not a long term solution for your affiliate marketing business. You have to get your autoresponder service as soon as possible.

2. Banners

Despite of what you have read, banners still have it potential in the business. However, you have to be diligent when you are placing banners on your blog or website.

If your website is filled with banners, you are actually confusing your customers. You are not giving a clear message to your customers. And when people are confused, they are most likely to leave your website.

What is most important is that your customers are going to have bad impression with you when they leave your website in confusion. They might think that you are taking advantage on them. And this is the last thing you want your customers to think about you.

So, when you are putting banners on your blog or website, please put some sense before you do that.

3. Tracking

I don't know about you, but I used to refuse to track my result when I started my affiliate marketing business. I thought that it is extra work to track the result. As long as the customers by the product, I earn the commission and that is it. Why the fuss?

It was not until that I have overspent my budget that I understand how important tracking is. If I have looked at the report, I could have spent the money on other tools to build my affiliate marketing business. At least I can have more money to pay for the autoresponder service.

At some point, your affiliate marketing success, is NOT about how you market your product. It is how your CUSTOMERS buy your product. So, when you want to be successful in this business, you got to take into consideration about your customers.

1. Customer

If you want to make money with affiliate marketing, the very first thing you need to look seriously in to is this,

Yeah. What is it for them? What do they get from buying from you? There are a lot of affiliate marketers selling the same thing. Why don they have to get it from you? Is it because you are the first one who contacted them? I don't think so.

If you want to know what is important to your customers, put yourself into your customer's shoe. Imagine you are given the offer. Think about the reasons why you DON'T want to take the offer?

2. Price

And one of the reasons that pop to your mind might be the price of your product. Can your customers afford the price?

It is very important that you find a way to let your customers see that the quality of the product is well worth the price. You have to tell them that the product can solve their problems. And you, as the affiliate marketer are willing to back the offer with your personal guarantee that the product works (this is very important because you need the customers to repeat their sales with you).

3. Communication

So, how are you going to tell your customer about the uniqueness of your product?

If you are promoting your affiliate marketing business with blog, you can start a poll on your blog. Once you got the result, you will know what your customers are most concern about. So, see that you align your marketing effort to what your customers need.

If you are promoting your affiliate marketing business with your own list, you can send an email to your customers and find out what they want. If they comment that they need more bonuses besides what the vendor offer, see that you create something that can satisfy their need.

With all the things being said, you need to understand that there will be people who still refuse to buy from you anyway. I don't have the answer to that. I think they have their reasons to and I have to respect that. So, don't be upset when some people don't buy from you.

I know that a lot of you might be afraid that you will lose your affiliate marketing business. I know that you know that your fear is holding you back and limiting your affiliate marketing progress. You know that very clearly but you just can't hold back the fear.

To tell you the truth, it is alright to have that fear in you. In fact, you have to have that fear in you.

I will be afraid if you were to tell me that you are fearless and you are willing to do anything to make money with affiliate marketing. Now, that is OK when you have a lot of money to spare. But as what I have seen in this business, not all of you are blessed with that capability.

That is why you want to put fear on the side line and startto tap into the analytical side of your brain. The fear is still there. Just that you are now focusing on your analytical mind. You want to look at the ebooks, software and tools to see which is more reliable and perform as they claim would be. Ultimately, you want to spend the least to bring you the maximum profit for your affiliate marketing business.

And to train your analytical mind, you can start by reading the reviews about the offers you get in your email. Never rush to buy the ebook when someone told you that you can get super rich with the secrets reveal in the ebook. Instead, you should search for the reviews about the product on the search engine and find put the pros and cons of the product.

And if you are afraid of bias (which is very common in this business), you can join various affiliate marketing forums and post your question there. Then, you will combine the information from the forums and the reviews so see whether the ebook is worth your money. I do that before I buy the tools for my affiliate marketing business and I have saved a lot of money with this.

So, never think that fear is bad for your business. You just need to work with it. :-)

Self Doubt

When you are running your affiliate marketing business, it is common that things don't turn out as you plan. You thought you can make big money with the business and you can live a financially free life from now on. But for some reasons, what you plan didn't work. In fact, you have spent so much money buying into the products that claim to build your business in 7 days just to see them fail in your face over and over again.

To tell you the truth, there is nothing more damaging than your own doubt. I know that because I have been there. And guess what?

Then, you have to research on the niches and one place you can go is www.43things.com. I always go there to check on the current hot topic. Look for the bold and larger size words. The bigger and bolder they are, the hotter the topic. And when you click on the words, you will see 10 more topics that are under that hot topic and my friend, you just found 10 hot sub niches that you can start make money with.

After that, you will also want to find profitable keywords for your niche and you can go to https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal. Key in your niche keyphrases and look at the approximate searches. Always remember that the higher the more searches for the keyphrases, the stronger the competition. If you are just starting with affiliate marketing, you probably will want to target the less search keyphrases.

Once you got the keyphrases, you can start to write articles about them and post the articles to the various article directories. And in the resource box, remember to direct the link to your website or blog. Please don't direct your customers to the merchants' website directly. It is hard to make money with affiliate marketing. It is even harder when you are new in the business. Why I say this is not to push you away from this profitable career but to prep you for the coming challenges.

I started with no experience so I start to look in the internet hoping to find some lead. I read articles, joined newsletter, downloaded freebies and bombarded with offers.

Then I have to go back to the internet and look for more information. And the more I look at the information, the more I got confused by it. Everything seems nice and workable. Everything felt like profitable and everything sounded promising.

I was hesitated to start my affiliate marketing business because I was afraid to start with all the "seems to work" method. I was afraid to start the business with the x ways only to find that the y ways work better.

I was afraid to fail my only way out of the rat race.

All that sounds too familiar. Doesn't it?
