Getting The Sales...

What is better than to start the new year with discussion about getting your prospects to pay for your affiliate product?

Somehow some people will have the idea that getting the prospects to buy your product is to convince them to buy something they don't need and rush their decision before they change their mind. But my friend, let me tell you. Scam artist rush the prospects to buy their stuffs and you, as a professional affiliate marketer, don't need that. What you need is the ability to show your prospects that your products can help them succeed.

You just need to communicate effectively with your prospects and really listen to what they are saying. When you interact with them sincerely, you will know what your prospects really want. Then you can decide whether your product suits them or not.

If your product can't feed their need, tell them honestly. There is no point squeezing a square block into a round hole. You are only getting your customers upset and when they ask for a refund, you will get yourself upset.

Remember, you will always win when you help others to win. You will better. :-)

Now, no matter what kind of business you are in, you are constantly competing with someone else. In affiliate marketing, you are competing with other affiliate marketers for the same market. How are you going to stand out of the crowd then?

What you can do is to understand your prospects behavior and you can do that by building long term friendships with your customers. Talk to your prospects, ask them what you can do to help solve their problem and when they turn to you for help, do your best to answer them.

Once you understand what motivate your prospects, fulfilling their need will easy and the money will follow.

After you close the sale with your customers, you need to see to that your promise is being fulfilled. Ask them did they receive their product and are they happy with the product after a few days. If they are unsatisfied with the purchase, see what you can do and to solve their problem. If you can't solve the issue, direct your customers to talk to the merchant.

Now, that is what I call value added service and that is what sets you apart with the rest of the affiliate marketers. However, through my experience, this kind of extra work does eat into your time. But when there is a chance I can build relationship with my customers, I will go for it. I just want to know more about them. :-)

Cookie

Affiliate programs usually will put a cookie in your prospects computer. So, when your prospects click through your affiliate link to the merchant site but leave, and they decide to buy later, you can still earn the commission.

The question is:

"How long can the cookie last?"

Because some cookies only last 24 hours, some last a month and some last even longer.

Personally I think, having a cookie that last a year doesn't help much because not many people are going to come back and buy your product after 11 months. However, cookie that last 24 hours won't help you to earn in affiliate marketing either. This is because the time span is too short and most people take more than a day to think about their purchase. Unless your product is relatively cheap and fast moving, then that is a different story.

What I am trying to say here is that you need to be clear of how long your cookie is going last and are you OK with that.

When you are OK with the period, then go all out and promote your affiliate product. By the way, you can ask the merchant how long the cookie last if you are unclear about that.

Your 2009 Business Plan

As 2008 is coming to an end, be grateful to what you have achieved in this year. So, have fun during Christmas and celebrate the coming of the new year with all your heart. :-)

After the celebration has ended and the energy subsided, it is time to go back to reality and take a serious look at your affiliate marketing business for 2009. And just like the article you have read, you need a plan to do it. I bet you even read more than 1 articles about how to write your plan. Still, have you look at what you need to do before you write your plan?

If you haven't, let's take a look at what you need to do:

1. When you are writing your affiliate marketing plan, it must be align with your product. It is simply illogic to adopt a marketing plan for car insurance while you are marketing coffee machine (this is an extreme example but you get the idea).

2. Write out on a piece of paper what product you want to sell and see how you can fulfill your customer needs.

3. Ask your prospects whether they are going to buy that product. Ask your prospects what other features they are looking for in your product and how much they are willing to pay for it. Sometime you will find precious ideas to build your product through their input.

4. Before you launch your product, you must let your prospects have a demo of your product. You will want to know how your prospects feel about your product. Listen to their feedbacks and look into what you can do to enhance your product.

Also, by giving a demo to your prospects, you are preparing them to the live version of your product. People are more likely to buy something once they have the feel of the product.

Once you are done with pre-planning, it is time you look at your business plan:

1. How are you going to find your customers? PPC, SEO or article marketing? Since I like to write and share information with you, that is why I choose article marketing and blog. You must align your marketing method with your interest and budget too.

2. How much are you going to charge so that you remain profitable and your customers still see the value in it? For me, I mainly focus on affiliate product. When I am choosing the product, I generally pick the product that I feel is affordable to you and you can benefit from it.

Why? Because I have been through the process of buying expensive stuffs and they didn't work. Please mind my language here, it sucks. So, I learn to offer product that is only valuable to your money.

3. How are you going to convince your prospects to buy? One thing you need to remember is that there will be people who don't buy your things. It is not that you are a bad marketer, just that they have their reasons to keep their money. For instance, they simply can't afford your product.

I bet you been through that and so did I. So, rejoice on the customers you have already converted and learn more new ways to make money online.

4. How are you going to support your customers? How can you do it cost and time effectively? Surely your customers will have question when they bought your product. some even will ask you questions before they buy.

For me, I always set 1-2 hours daily answering emails. I want my customers to get the personal touch from me. It might not sound time effective to you but that is just my dedication to my customers.

5. By the way, you should know that your affiliate marketing success depends on your customer satisfaction. How are you going to keep them happy and be your loyal customers?

Spending time and giving attention to my customers are how I keep my customers happy. And by talking to them, they gave me new ideas to increase my online income. So, why is it you don't want to keep your customers happy?

Marketing Your Product

Do you know people also judge your product quality by price? Let's look at it this way; your prospects are exposed to affiliate marketing guide at $7 and $67 at the same time.

Some prospects are happy that they finally found a guide less than $10. But there are also people who are skeptical about the $7 guide. They might ask what kind of information you are giving them. Is it up to date or are you going to sell them something else afterwards?

So, when you have a good quality product, it should be sold at a decent price. Remember this, cheaper price is just part of your marketing strategies to get your product sold.

Instead you should focus on the uniqueness of your product. My mentor "forced" me to answer these questions before and now I think they will be helpful to you:
  1. Are you the sole provider of this product?
  2. Is there any competitors that offer similar products?
  3. How are your competitors marketing their products?
  4. What can you provide and your competitors can't?
  5. How can that help you to stay competitive in the market?

I always look through these questions when I am searching for my affiliate product. These questions also help me to create the bonuses for my affiliate product. Again, the uniqueness of your bonuses will also help to increase the chances your prospects buy from you rather than your competitor.

What Successful Affiliate Marketers Share?

What I believe in successful affiliate marketing business is that it is the same as any offline business. It is run by people. Then what these people have that you lack? Among the many criteria, they:
  1. Trust their decision
  2. Never give up

When you believe firmly in your decision, you will do whatever it takes to overcome any obstacles.

Since you already decided to join affiliate marketing, why not put your trust in it? Trust that it can help you to be your own boss; trust that it can help you to spend more time with your love ones and trust that it is the way to your financial freedom.

When you are despair:

  1. Remember why you join affiliate marketing in the first place.
  2. Assure yourself that all will turn out fine.
  3. Realign your marketing approach by asking your mentors, colleagues and customers

Look Forward...

From the day you decided to make money with affiliate marketing and get the system, it was the time you look forward only.

I felt the same as how you feel. As an affiliate marketer, I too started to ask question when I failed to make my desire income. I too asked myself why I didn't listen to the rejection. If I had listened to them, I will have more money in the bank and will be free from worrying for my online business. I will have more sleep and more time to do whatever I like.

Then again, I said to myself, rich affiliate marketers also been through the same process as mine. Guess what? They have faith in themselves, they have faith in their future and they have in affiliate marketing. They only look forward to what they will achieve. That is when I also started to look forward in my online business.

So, pull yourself back from any frustration. Collect your emotion and get yourself together. Look forward again. Your bright future is smiling at you. :-)

Hell's Kitchen...

Have you ever watch Hell's Kitchen before?

When you watch the show, you will know how important consistency is when you are running a kitchen. You just can't cook a perfect wellington now and cook a medium wellington while your customer ordered a well done wellington.

Now, that is the same when you are running your affiliate marketing business. You need to be consistent in whatever you do for your affiliate marketing business.

I know how boring things can be when you repeatedly building your affiliate marketing business and nothing seem to flourish. After that, the more you work for your online business, the stronger the little voice in your head will tell you to quit your new career.

I think that most of you have gone through or going through that stage right? How do you be consistent and shut that little voice then?

So here are some steps you can practice to be consistent in building your affiliate marketing business:

1. Stop reasoning

We tends to give reasons when we didn't do something and the most common reason is to tell that we have no time and we will do it when we have time.

Hey, when you start telling yourself that, it marks the point you are giving up building your online business.

What you need to now is to justify within yourself whether what you say is right. Is it really that you are so occupied with other things or is it your fear of failure kicked in?

Be honest with yourself when you are giving reasons.

2. Refer to goal

I know a lot people never set goals. They just jump into this business and wanting to earn as much money as possible. But that is not the thing we are discussing here. So, let's imagine you started out with a goal.

Whenever you notice that you are starting to be inconsistent, go back to your goal. Why do you want to achieve it in the first place? What is so important about achieving your goal?

If you can, have something to remind you of your goal. It can be the picture of your dream home or a mock check with the money you want to earn. So, whenever you look at it, it will motivate you to continue building your affiliate marketing business.

3. Break down your goal

Earning $120,000 from your affiliate marketing business every year might seems impossible when you are starting out in this industry. You will have a hard time believing yourself and aligning your efforts toward the goal.

Instead of that, break down your goal to earning $10,000 every month online can be more achievable. When things seem more achievable, you will be more motivated to do it.

And from there, develop a daily action plan of what you need to do to earn $10,000 every month with affiliate marketing. If an article a day is going to boost your reputation online, by all means, go do it. If reading a blog post can help you to be consistent in your marketing strategies, do read it.

4. Practice

Although you have broken down your goal into small pieces, it means zip when you just leave them like that. Regardless of how small the things are, make sure that you are consistent in doing it.

When you are building a successful affiliate marketing business, sometimes things can get very hectic. You will go around, doing anything you can, thinking to multitask to get your things done.

Guess what? You are only busying yourself and getting things half done.

Take this. When things are getting hectic, take a deep breath and slow down. Prioritize your tasks and concentrate on one thing at a time. For things that you can't attend to them now, write them down and follow up later.

Practice this over and over again and you will get better at what you do.

Do You Want To Be Rich?

If you want to be rich, proper investment is more important than saving.

Looking at the current economy situation and further devalue of money in the future, you can have a rough idea that it will take you a lot of time to be rich by saving your money.

So, it is wise that you look into some investments to secure your financial future.

What can you invest then?

Of course you can invest into the share market, mutual funds, real estates and many more. If you are not familiar with any of these investments, you can hire a professional or learn to be a professional yourself.

Personally, I would recommend you to do both because being totally dependent on someone else is never a good thing especially we are talking about your hard earned money. If you have some knowledge in what you are investing into, at least you can discuss with the professionals about how to maximize your profit.

Now, learning is another form of investment.

With this kind of investment, you empower yourself with certain knowledge and skills that no one can ever take away. And I highly recommend that.

Let's think about this, you are a CEO for a company. Unfortunately, you are sick and are force to take rest for a long period. Now, everyone knows that it is not your fault but due to the profitability of the company, you have to be replaced. So, the questions are, will your company wants you back and how long can you survive with your savings?

Things can be different if you have other skills and knowledge. You can give seminars and share your experience as a CEO if you have learnt effective public speaking. You can even write a book about the life of a retrenched CEO if you have learnt to write effectively.

Although those sounded like crap but it highlights how fragile your future can be if you have no other mode of investments.

So, either you invest in shares or into yourself, you need to do something to secure your financial future.

The hard fact is that not much people will help you if you have no income...
