You have to understand the terms and conditions set by the vendors and the affiliate network before you sign up for any affiliate programs. You don't want to work hard to promote the product only to see the vendors or the affiliate network refuse to pay you because you violated the regulations.

It is very important that you check on the reputation of the vendor before you start promoting their products. There are cases where affiliates were not making money simply because the vendor don't want to or hold their payment. Imagine you have spent quite a sum of money on pay per click (PPC) and you need the commission to pay for the PPC cost at the end of the month. My blood will surely boil if I were stuck in this situation.

You can also ask about the affiliate program if you are in any affiliate marketing forum. The members will share the information with you if they know anything about the program.

The, you will want to look at the marketing tools provided by the vendors. It is preferably that you choose the affiliate program that provide ready made marketing tool to save your time. You can paste the banner on your website and start promoting the product immediately.

You can even publish the article written by the vendor to start making money with the affiliate program. But if I were you, I will make some changes on the article and possibly add some extra information to it just to make it look more unique. Think about this, you are probably marketing to the same prospects with your competitors. Your potential customers might have read the same article before. If you have read the same article before, will you read it again? But when you make your post different, your prospects might stay until the end of the article and probably buy from you.

Lastly, you want to check out the cookie of the affiliate program. You can still earn the affiliate commission if your prospects go back to buy the product within the cookie period. It is better that affiliate programs offer longer cookie period.
